Does a Battery Backup System Require Maintenance?
How Much Maintenance Does a Battery-Powered Generator Need?

Taking care of a Medi-Products battery backup system is very easy. That’s one of the best things about using a battery backup for power.
When you buy a fuel-powered backup generator, the price you pay upfront is just the beginning. Over time, parts can break or wear out, and you might need to fix or replace them to keep the generator working well.
But, to make sure our backup power system works its best, you just need to do a few simple things:
- A weekly function test that takes less than five minutes.
- A monthly runtime test that takes two hours or less.
Gas-powered generators work like car engines, so they need regular and expensive maintenance to keep them running well.
Unlike gas or diesel generators, which spend much on engine maintenance, battery-powered systems use sealed lead-acid batteries and solid-state parts. This makes them easier to maintain and less expensive to care for.
Battery-powered systems are different. They use special sealed batteries and solid parts, so they don’t have moving parts or need oil or other fluids. It means you don’t have to worry about oil changes or expensive maintenance, making them easier and cheaper.
Do I Need to Replace the Batteries in a Rechargeable Generator?
Their sealed lead acid glass mat batteries are at the core of Medi-Product’s generators. These batteries provide many benefits, including:
- Leak-proof design
- Low discharge rates when not in use
- High discharge rates during use
- Proven and reliable technology platform.
But, like all batteries, its performance will get weaker over time. This happens because the fluid inside the battery can’t store as much energy as it used to after being used many times.
Because of this, we suggest replacing the batteries every four years. It ensures that the battery backup system continues to work well and lasts as long as it should.
Changing the batteries is easy and should only take a few minutes. Even in a big place, an operations manager or someone with similar skills can do it without trouble.
The cost to replace the batteries is about 15-20% of what the system initially cost.
However, this cost is offset by:
- The lack of ongoing maintenance costs associated with a battery-powered generator
- The cost of battery technology decreasing over time (as fuel costs continue to rise)
- The Battery Deposit Fee is returned upon recycling the old batteries.
Also, if your batteries have any problems before they reach 4 years of use, Medi-Products’ 4-year prorated warranty will cover replacing them.
